Chantal Marie Varga (1985-2008)
Chantal was a truly beautiful, gifted, talented free spirit with an infectious zest for life and a deep love and appreciation for those who were blessed to know her and to have been a part of her earth spirit. An avid lover of travel, Chantal immersed herself in different cultures and embraced a tolerant and loving attachment to all people. Chantal packed a lot of living into her 23 years in this world. She lived life to the fullest. Every moment was full of purpose. It’s amazing to think of how many lives Chantal touched in her limited time with us. She was a person who made a difference in people’s lives.
This scholarship has been established to honor her memory. An annual scholarship will be given to an Alonso High School senior who has participated actively in the theatre program. The recipient does not have to intend to major in theatre in college, but must instead, exhibit the potential to succeed in a post-secondary academic setting and share Chantal’s love of life and the people in it. Through example, the recipient must exhibit a willingness to do his/her part to make this world a better place. .

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY
Please write an essay (no longer than 250 words) discussing how you would like to make our world a better place. Chantal did this through exploring different cultures and keeping an open mind. She worked for an environmental group that lobbied our state for reform. She lived a "green" lifestyle. She was incredibly generous of her time and her energy to help others less fortunate. She never had a negative thing to say about anyone and always found the good in situations and people. This is how she helped to make our world a better place. Your journey may be different. You do not need to share the same goals or interests as Chantal. You simply need to have a desire to leave a positive mark on our world. Please discuss how you plan to achieve this.
You must submit the application and essay no later than Monday, May 16th. Your essays will be read by people close to Chantal. Your name will not be included on the essay that is given to the panel. They will only get your answers and your essay. It will be a blind assessment of the candidates. The award will be presented at the annual drama awards ceremony. A check will be made out to the individual student, not the institution they plan to attend. This is a one time scholarship award. It is not renewable. A different student will be selected each year.
All essays should be submitted to the following email address: lisa.vorreiter@sdhc.k12.fl.us
You can type your essay directly into the message of the email or you can submit it as an attachment. If you submit it as an attachment, please make sure that it is in DOC or PDF format.
You will receive a confirmation letting you know that your essay and application have been receieved. Make sure you complete both.
If you have any questions, please ask Mrs. Vorreiter. Thank you.
